Keith Hemmelman's (Hemo2) "Baseball Databank Database"
- The database doesn't do statistical "analysis". It includes numerous reports you can select from a drop down list to display stats. It includes the ability to browse players, managers, and teams, and view the stats associated with each. It does not include the ability to do things like list the batting leaders in a particular category, etc. Those things are too complicated for me to try and do within Access, especially when each year has different limits on which players do and do not "officially" qualify for these things. I could have simply set a cutoff of AB's, etc. and listed the leaders "with >450 AB's" for each year, etc., but that wouldn't be an accurate representation of league leaders, so I did not do this. Thus, if you're not interested in simply viewing stats, you probably won't like this database.
- My version of the Baseball Databank data includes a different Hall of Fame table than what comes with the Baseball Databank data. The HOF table that comes with the BDB is very good, but I feel strongly it has numerous errors and even more omissions of HOF data. I spent some time a year ago researching the HOF voting results from the HOF website and created my own HOF table to be used. I feel it is much more accurate than what comes with the BDB. This is the only table I have altered like this in my database.
- The database is based on the 11-17-06 release of the Baseball Databank Database. I do not know if there will be an updated version of this released or not. If so, I will hopefully update my version for download.
- I posted the database in 7Zip format for download. The 7z format gave me the best compression of this large database to help conserve on space with my limited personal web space available. 7 zip is available HERE.
